About Code Ocean

The Code Ocean team is on a mission to make research code and data easily shareable, reusable, reproducible, and preserved. We are building a cloud-based, open access, interoperable platform that enables researchers to publish their code to advance the reproducibility of their research.

As a Computational Research Meta-Researcher you will work closely with our product and engineering teams and report to our Chief Product Officer.

Job responsibilities

Research and become an authority on computational research:

  • Investigate existing and emerging tools, techniques, practices in computational research
  • Experiment with select tools and workflows to develop deeper expertise
  • Interact with academic researchers across disciplines and technical skill levels to understand their computational use-cases and challenges

Communicate findings and recommendations internally:

  • Synthesize findings into reports for internal consumption
  • Work with the product and engineering teams to develop new features
  • Steward the integration of new technologies into the platform by guiding implementation, training staff, supporting users and contributing to documentation

Disseminate & contribute to resources in computationally intensive research disciplines:

  • Coordinate with other initiatives in the space and contribute to open-source projects
  • Write blog posts and content for Code Ocean’s website
  • Deliver presentations and run trainings at academic institutions and conferences

Job qualifications

  • Graduate-level research experience in a computationally-intensive discipline required
  • Intermediate experience with several languages used in the context of scientific research (e.g. R, Python, MATLAB, Julia, C++) required
  • Experience with computational infrastructure (e.g. build systems, source control, data management tools, CI, cloud computing, HPC clusters) required
  • Experience with Linux and container technology required
  • Excellent written and verbal science communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with researchers
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • PhD preferred but not required

Who you are

You are an adaptable, self-motivated, organized individual who wants to advance the state of art in computational research. You are willing to travel occasionally and able to lead multiple tasks efficiently.

The preferred location for the role is in New York. If you live elsewhere, you should be comfortable with a remote working environment.
